You could tell that it was going to be a hot one from the first climb of the day. After the first water source the trail descended the outer skirts of the ridges and headed towards a fire station. It was there that we experienced the incredible double trail magic from Salty Jay, Michel and Rachel. The amazing array of food and drink they provided helped us through the ensuing climbs in the afternoon heat. At this point we were walking with a big group, all of whom were headed to Messenger Flats camp ground. We pressed on through the evening to get there and were stunned by the immense sunset a top of the hill above the site. We set up tent in the dark, devoured our dinner, and hit the hay like a sack of bricks. The biggest day thus far was over.
